Inside: The best parenting books for first time moms who’ve just had a baby or are entering the toddler years for the first time
Even though my youngest “baby” is 3 years old, I vividly remember the uncertainty I faced as a new mom.
The struggles with whether or not I should co-sleep with my baby who wouldn’t sleep unless she was next to me, any and all things related to breastfeeding, and overall adjusting to life with a baby.

As my kids got older, the struggles became knowing the best way to discipline them, and how to deal with toddler behavior in general.

I didn’t have any close friends who had babies at that point, and while my mom tried to give advice, a lot of time had passed since she last had a baby.
Sometimes even though you may have friends or family you can ask for advice, you may not want to ask because you don’t want to get mom shamed, (cause who needs that?!).

So I googled EVERYTHING and read ALL the books!
(I even started reading some of these parenting books when I was still pregnant).
The knowledge you gain from these books is invaluable because you’re reducing the uncertainty about a subject and therefore reducing the anxiety you feel.
Once I read up on the benefits of co-sleeping and safety tips for doing it, I started co-sleeping with my baby and you can bet, we both got a lot more sleep!
I wasn’t anxious anymore about whether or not I was doing the right thing because I read up on it, and made an informed decision.
It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed and not have a clue what you’re doing with your baby or toddler!
When you feel stuck, these parenting books are the perfect resource to solve your parenting problems and reduce the overwhelm.

Final Thoughts
As a first time mom, there’s a lot you’ll need to figure out. Some of it you’ll figure out through trial and error, some from your intuition, or advice from others.
For some subjects though books will be your best bet. If you don’t have people in your life who have the same parenting beliefs or styles, they might judge. But books won’t!
Maybe you aren’t sure what your parenting style is yet. Or you just want more information about breastfeeding, co-sleeping, or discipline techniques.
Take some time to read these books to help alleviate the overwhelm and stress that comes with raising a tiny baby or a crazy toddler, with no prior knowledge!
Don’t forget to save this so you can refer back to this list as your parenting needs change!
