Are you wondering what the best combs and brushes are for detangling mixed curly hair? These brushes and combs will cut down on detangle time and easily remove tangles, making you and your kids happier!
When your kid has thick, curly biracial hair, you learn pretty quickly that certain combs and brushes won’t work when you’re trying to detangle their hair.
In fact, over the years I’ve had a few combs completely snap in half while combing my daughter’s hair!
But it can be confusing to know what to use to detangle your kids hair if you don’t have a lot of experience with textured curly hair.
When my daughter was younger, both my husband and mom would always ask why I didn’t just brush her hair and I would have to explain why you don’t use a regular brush to detangle mixed hair.
Using a regular brush on naturally curly hair will cause damage and frizz, (because they rip through the hair and separate the curl clumps instead of encouraging them to form).
I knew that a wide tooth comb would be a good choice to detangle, so for years that’s the only thing I used.
Then one day someone at the salon asked if I had ever tried a Denman brush. I’d never heard of it, so I said no, I don’t use brushes on my kids mixed hair.
She swore up and down that this brush was amazing and detangled her thick curly hair with ease.
I was very skeptical, as I just could never imagine getting a brush through my daughter’s thick curls without ripping hair, or causing frizz.

However, as I started researching brushes I kept coming across people praising not only the Denman brush, but other brushes too!
I decided I had to try one to see if it was as amazing as everyone was saying, and let me tell you…it was a GAME CHANGER!
I definitely recommend using a brush to detangle, but make sure to have a wide tooth comb in your arsenal of hair tools as there’s still a need for it too.
